The AAKP has been a supporter of Home Dialysis Central since 2006.
Founded more than 35 years ago, the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) exists to serve the needs, interests, and welfare of all kidney patients and their families. Its mission is to improve the lives of fellow kidney patients and their families by helping them to deal with the physical, emotional, and social impact of kidney disease.
In 1969, a group of six patients developed what remains the only national kidney organization directed by patients, for patients. AAKP was created by patients who had never met before, until they were brought together by one factor, kidney failure and the need for the then experimental process of dialysis.
Today, AAKP remains dedicated to providing patients with the education and knowledge necessary to ensure quality of life and quality of health; a support system of local chapters comprising family members, patients, and healthcare professionals; and national efforts to preserve the Medicare ESRD Program.
